The F.W. Woolworth Co. was started by Frank W. Woolworth on June 21, 1879 when the "Great 5c Store" opened in Lancaster, Pa. In 1912 Woolworth's merged with S.H. S.A. Forbess and his son G.M. Forbess owned and operated a threshing business near Hygiene between 1878 and 1920. They bought their first steam powered threshing machine about 1888.
